This is another image I had wanted to capture from a missed opportunity a few years back. I almost missed it again as my brother had my 28-70 with him back at the room as he was not feeling well after rolling his ankle. Rather than miss the shot again I used the 17-35 with the intention of doing a little cropping. I would have liked  a bit more yellow leaves in the LRC, but I was pleased with the final image.

As always thanks for taking a look and leaving a comment or suggestion.

You have three layers of color here with a good set of linear diagonals separating layers.  I think it is a pleasing fall image.

Great version of a classic subject. The comp, combination of colors and presentation are sublime.

The first thing that struck me was how well the defined color layers work - then I saw David's comment...I do think that the image must be seen in full resolution, even if one has to scroll up and down, as the detail is a real treat. I think it would make a really beautiful print.

Fabulous color and detail in this.  I can imagine cloning an extra few leaves in the LRC to address your wish if you like to do thay sort of thing.  I love it as is thoug.  The slight twist of the trunks and the warm colors make this feel wondefully intimate. Well seen and composed!

Eliot Porter. Your images make me think to this master of colour photography.
Because the chromatic separation and clarity.
Also evidently so well composed, a pleasure to see.

Wrong lens or not, you succeeded very well! The layer effect of the red/white/yellow works great. Large version (full res!) is indeed a pleasure to look at.

Very nice, Ed. I like the way you got close with the comp and isolated the three elements and used the bisecting tree trunks. The detail in the tree trunks in the larger view is excellent as are the colors.

Literally three layers of colour and two diagonals. Lots of detail in the larger version. A bit more on the right? Anyway, a great image as is.

Ed,

An outstanding autumn image - as evidenced by the many positive comments.  I'll even go beyond the "layers" that this image clearly has, but there is also a dimensional (3D) look to this as well, given how the layers are clearly defined and separated.

It's difficult to appreciate the full beauty of this given the scrolling restrictions on a vertical image (at least in my modest 23" monitor.)  So I initially thought of a crop, eliminating the bottom grouping of red leaves.  Although I think that would be a successful option, I don't think it would be better than what you have here.

A simple, yet gorgeous image!

Ed, What a beautiful autumn image this is. Your composition couldn't be any better and the colors are fantastic. A wonderful combination of birch and maple for sure. Very nice!

Thanks for your thoughts folks; always appreciated.
Lon: Funny you should suggest that crop as that was a comp I would have tried if I had my 28-70 with me that morning. The 17-35 was to wide at 35 so I knew I would have to crop a little bit with that as is.
