Ring-billed Gull

While out photographing the harlequin duck, I found a group of ring-billed gulls resting on the lake ice.  This gull was backlit and the gull's  shadow was present on the ice in the foreground.  I thought the lighting was very nice and it made the gull stand out from the white surroundings. I used luminosity masks to bring out the detail in the eye which was in heavy shadow and slectively lighten the bird's plumage.  I also used the rubber stamp tool to remove a diagonal gray line in the BG to finalize the image. Finally, I tweaked up the contrast and brightness for the final image. K5IIs 600mm f5.6 (ISO 400 1/250sec at f11).................Jim

Excellent job processing this, Jim.  You really made the gull stand out against the high key bg.  Nice work.
