Canary Morn 0915

The rising sun highlights the travertine steps and the mist rising from Canary Springs in Yellowstone.  This is quite a change from a couple of years ago when most of the foreground and all of the midground was dry.  (5D3, 24-70mm f2.8 @ 30mm, f/16, 1/30s, iso 200, tripod)

Mark,
An intriguing and unique capture. The side lit travertine provides some nice leading lines into the image. Interesting foreground textures and patterns in the larger version really hold my interest. Looks like a great shooting location!

I am always amazed at the textures in the travertine.  The mist provides a perfect backdrop these steps.  I never get tired of seeing images from Yellowstone. Nice work, Mark.

Mark,

"Glorious" comes to mind - beautiful morning light highlighting the texture, lines and details of the mini terraces with the rising steam providing a dynamic element.

Nothing to be critical of here and I have no suggestions.  Wonderfully composed and executed.

Great leading lines of the FG and the lighting is perfect.  The mist clouds seem overly yellow to me, though they are a nice contrast to the blue sky.  Also, the left UC sky seems overly dark compared to the rest of the sky, considering  the direction of the sun.  Wondering if you yellowed the mist in post?  Bet it would be a nice BW as well.

Very interesting structures in the foreground, and the light is perfect for accentuating them! The mist is nice too. The gradient in the sky is a bit strong (polarizer?) for me though, even if it is not a big deal.

Mark, This is really a great looking scene. I like your composition very much and everything has such a nice natural look to it. I would kind of expect the mist to have a bit of yellow tint in this sunlight, at least it looks natural to me. The sky seems ok to me as well. With the sun coming up off to the right side here (at least it looks that way to me) I would think the sky would be darker on the left as it is. Nice work on this!

The FG is amazing with all those leading lines and textures and the rising mist and directional light help finish off the image for me. This is very nicely done, Mark.

The lines and textures brought out by the early morning sunlight gracing those travertine encrustations really makes this a truly remarkable image.  The backlit mist is icing on the cake and makes this even more stunning.  Gorgeous.

Wonderful squiggly lines in the foreground leading to the mist, mountains and sky. Love the color palette, too. Gorgeous Yellowstone shot!

Beautiful Yellowstone image.  I also like it with the sky cropped out, rendering it quite abstract. Works for me real well either way. Once I retire, I plan to make an extended sojourn to Yellowstone. Cool stuff there.
