American Tree Sparrow

I took the photo through our kitchen window this morning during our second significant winter storm. Not the best image, but I like the pose and composition.  I increased the brightness & contrast to offset presence of glare from the window glass.  There was some motion blur present in the lower mandible and was able to reduce it with Topaz Infocus.  I also removed an OOF bird feeder that was along the left hand margin. K5 IIs 300mm f4 Av +.67ev comp (1/800sec at f8.0, ISO 1000).

Very good for the condiitons, Jim. Hard to imagine why a passerine would be calling in those conditions, but well done.

We all need optical glass windows don't we?  Seriously though, this is almost as good.  Nice pose and BG.  I'm sure the sparrow appreciated the feeder in these conditions.

Hi Jim,

Nice work...especially for shooting through a window. I know you said you added some contrast and brightness. For me (and this is probably more of a preference thing), I might add a touch more contrast. It seems a bit flat still. I might also give a touch of saturation. Not a lot, just small adjustments. Still, nicely done!

A very nice image, Jim.  Given the snowy conditions, the effect produced by the window looks very natural.  Great pose and composition.  In the larger image, the bottom of the toongue almost looks like there's the impression of a screen you shot through, but I don't see any evidence of it elsewhere, so I'm guessing it's the structure of the tongue itself-pretty cool.

Thank you for the all the comments.  According to Kurt's suggestion, I added some additional contrast and sdaturation wjhich brightened things up slightly.  Jim, I think this sparrow was giving the goldfinches a warning to clear some space at the thistle feeder. David, I would love a pane of Zeiss optical glass for window bird photographysad.  I sometimes open the window which the cats love (cat TV with sound!), but my wife does not understand that snow on the kitchen counter is a normal feature of a typical Michigan winter!  Once again thank you.............................Jim

Clearly far from ideal conditions, but it works for me, the subtle contrast gives a good sense of place and time. The repost is brighter, but the original works just as well for me.

Jim,

I am with you, great pose and a chance that should have not been wasted. You may think in incrasing selectively at the head area the contrast a bit which will remove a bit the milky appearence.

I love everything about this photo except the window. The position of the bird in frame is perfect, the sprig of green adds a sort of warmth and balance to the overall composition, and detail of the bird is impressive. I would try to take out some of the spots in the upper half of the frame with PS content aware fill to smooth out the background a little bit and see how that would look.

lends continuity right out of frame. I agree with Alberto that the repost is better. It
