OK I messed up yesterday posting in fauna when I had some evidence of man. Sorry, it's been a while. This is another image of the bobcat visiting my yard a few days ago.  He sat there about 3 minutes before he had enough.  The entire time we had on and off eye contact.  About 75 feet away.  7D2 with 100-400 II and 1.4 TC.  ISO 1600, F8 and 1/400 sec.  Thanks for looking. Comments welcome.

Ed,

that must have been truly an exiting moment for you and you managed to get a very nice picture. The bobcat itself looks very healthy and I like the pose and placement of it.

Technically the image also looks great, good sharpness despite the usage of an extender and the exposure is right on.

Thanks for sharing this great moment with us.

What a wonderful opportunity!  Technically and esthetically pleasing.  I am generally not fond of seeing wild animals staring at the camera, but in this setting, it does show that the cat has become comfortable around people. In that context, the photograph documents the behavior of many species where wildlife habitat and human habitat intersect.

Your comment about whether such images belong in the Wildlife Gallery perplexes me.  I rarely post in that gallery because most of my wildlife shots are rather mundane species rather than charismatic megafauna.  However, I don't recall any prohibition of "hand of man" elements in that gallery, as long as the animal is not captive, baited or in a zoo or wildlife park.  As far as I know, human elements are prohibited only in the Landscape Gallery.  I am thinking of posting more images in all galleries this year, so I guess I need to check that out.  I'll repeat this comment in onr of the discussion forums.

I like the intense stare Ed.  Nice capture.  I guess the grass put it in the hand of man category but wonderful image none the less.

Magnificent animal.  Nice fur and face detail.  Congratulations.  Well done.
