I can guarantee this image was not shot at 4:39 AM, probably PM.  This is Minnesota's State Bird the Common Loon Gavia immer. These two were fishing together this foggy day in Lake Eufaula, on the GA. side.  I doubt she was willing to share that tiny morsel.

But it is a good tiny morsel.  Nice getting 2 in focus and nice behavior.  I do like the light and though there is a little noise you were able to get detail in the shadows.

The light does look a bit harsh, Elizabeth, but you handled it well.  Some noise reduction on the bg might be appropriate.  Good to see this one represented.

Reworked the loons.  Thank you for the comments.  I  have so much to learn and appreciate your assistance.  I just hope I didn't lose detail.  And I did.wink

Looms or Loons, Elizabeth? Although I have seen some nice woven tapestries featuring loons. The re-post is good. I've watched Common Loons exchange courtship gifts.

A fine catch, Elizabeth, with the two birds in focus, under challenging lighting conditions.  (Why can't we just get the birds to pose at dusk and dawn...)  You've handled the lighting well with good details showing in the dark regions.  The loss of detail in the repost is quite noticeable, so I'd suggest something in between (that's a pretty typical NPN comment...never satisfied...).  Are you doing noise reduction during raw processing?  When I've pushed iso to 3200 (or once 6400), I can get results that I find acceptable in terms of noise in the oof background with little loss of detail in the subject by pushing the luminance slider in Adobe's "Detail" processing window.
