Curious Calf + RP

This photo is from our trip to Jasper this past fall. I found it strange that this guy still had spots at that time of year. I guess he must have been born pretty late.

When I took this photo most of the herd was grazing away, so this little fella stood and watched the bull work his harem. As much as I love photographing the big bulls, I have a soft spot for baby animals so I just couldn't resist.

Thanks for lookin'!

Such a lovely face.  Nice detail on the spots and face.  The surrounding flora adds dimension.

Hello Jenaya.... Excellent detail in head region... and the soft muted colours, slightly soft, lends to a very pleasing capture !

Thanks for sharing!

The calf looks great. I love the pose and you composition works fine.  The colorful vegetation is definitely a plus.  The one thing I think...is this is good but with additional processing can make it a real knock out.  It looks slightly over exposed on my monitor, washing away some of the drama.  How about lowering exposure 1/3 or so, and maybe adding (or just experiment with) some mid-tone contrast on the calf.  You might even try a wee bit more saturation on the colorful foliage, too.  All that is subjective, but I believe you will find some pleasing enhancement.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. Lon, we took your advice and dropped the brightness a bit while increasing saturation and taking a touch of cyan out of the background greens. Let me know what you think!

Jenaya, at this stage of working the image, it really comes down to what YOU think!  enlightened  To my eye this repost is a subtle but real improvement.   You also did well to avoid the trap of going too far  and making the scene less natural.  I like the end result...do you?
