Hi everyone! I've never had a lot of luck when it comes to photographing Red Winged Black Birds but I'm pretty happy with the way this one turned out. I really like the warm tones and his pose.

I would love to know what y'all think about this one.

I think you captured this RWBB well.  You handled black well capturing the feather texture, captured the eye well, a difficulty with the subject.  The background you were given is a bit busy but you couldn't help that.  Well done.

I like the environment for the blackbird.  Feels very natural.  I don't like the crop.  Feels far to cramped, made even more so with the big watermark stripe on the right edge.

Well, same thing here: I never made any decent shot of them - but of course only visit the US every now and then. You managed to get quite an attractive shot, I love the pose, habitat and light in this one. Agree with Keith about the crop though, a little too narrow to my taste - I do not know how much room you have in the original image, but it may be worth considering trying a different crop. At any rate a good shot ! Cheers, Hans

Hi Jenaya,

Work on the crop--make the image less narrow which should improve the composition.  The large view looks very nice.........................Jim

Excellent job on the exposure of the Blackbird, Jenaya.  I like the unusual choice of crop-it fits well with this bird.  Looks like you had some sweet light.
