Brazilian Tapir

While we were photographing a Southern Anteater at Pouso Alegre in the Pantanal of Brazil, this tapir came out of the marsh we were shooting near.  It was amazing that an animal this large was able to stay hidden just within a few yards of us for about 30 minutes.  I managed to get this head shot as it left the area.

Interesting.  You definitely get a feeling for the habitat - and the photographic  challenges.  Great idea and execution.

Nate,
Never seen one of these, so even with the "pesky" grass it is a delightdevil

Hello Nate ...My first look at these guys...Great that you got a fleeting image capture between the branches, and so very sharply detailed , where visible.

On your trip, you were fortunate to see and capture some very interesting and seldom seen creatures!! :)

Thanks very much for sharing!

Hey Nate,

Perhaps a distraction or two (enlightened), but overall this is nice documentation of a species we rarely see photos of. I hope to see shots of the anteater as well!

Cheers...
