Common Goldeneye

I went out to Nisqually Wildlife Refuge yesterday and spent most of the morning in the fog.  It did thin out enough for this one and turned downright gorgeous in the afternoon.  I also had fun taking nice moody fog images and I'll probably post one or two of them in the future.  The angle here is a bit steep as I was on a boardwalk that's designed to accommodate our fairly large tidal variation and the tide was still pretty far out at the time.

7D2, Sigma 100-600 mm contemporary @ 600 mm, f/8, 1/2500, iso 800, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1 EV.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 13.8 MP prior to resizing.  Taken at 10:46 AM on February 25th.

Comments and critiques are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks,

These guys are as hard to properly expose as a Bufflehead. That eye makes it for me. Great job on a beautiful duck.

Dennis: the Goldeneye may be common, but it certainly is pretty. Great job on the techs and composition. Rlchard

Hi Dennis,

Well done and one of my favorite divers.  All this needs is to selectively sharpen just the eye--the pupil lacks a crisp edge.  Other than that, the comp, exposure and subject are right on...............................Jim

The angle didn't hurt a bit here, Dennis.  It gave you a nice reflection of the head and eye. I like the soft background also.  Maybe a pass at sharpening would bump the eye up  a bit.
