Spirit of the Forest

Here's a pan blur of a Jaguar from our Brazil trip last summer.  This was the same large male from my previous few posts but it was right about sunset and he was moving along the river.  I realized at this point it was unlikely I was going to get a good sharp image of it so I decided to try some pan blurs, this was my favorite of the few that I took.  I realize this one won't be to everyone's taste.

I think these are effective. And if you're not going to get anything else...

Nate,
I am not normally a fan of this type of image, but I think this works reasonably well.

hello nate, .... the movement here does portray a sense of elusiveness and the spirit of  wanting solitude.

The jaguar pops due to the blur of the branches. The image conveys a sense of urgency as if the hunt is on. Nice!

Cheers,

Hisham.

Really nice, Nate! 1/3sec is CRAZY slow for a pan for me anyway, but it created a strong sense of motion and a painterly feel. I like this a lot actually. Did you try any at a higher ISO and SS? It looks from the length of the blur the jaguar wasn't moving particularly fast so a faster SS likely would have diminished the effect appreciably. In any event, thanks for posting this creative rendering!

Thanks everyone.  John I didn't try any at higher speeds, I just had the chance for a few frames here.  But I do like to shoot blurs around 1/5 of a second.

For my tastes this is something I would keep, but would likely consider an "almost."  I do agree with the description af painterly effect.
