Juvi Red-Tailed

I believe this is a juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk. There's no red tail but the banding matches the guide I looked it up in. Please correct my ID if I'm wrong. As soon as I saw this hawk perched on top of a short pine tree and got my camera locked on, it took off. This was my first frame of the morning. I had nice morning light to work with. About 60% ff.

Thanks for looking, comments & suggestions are always appreciated!

Fantastic shot!  These birds are so hard to get images of and rarely perch low like this.  Love the strong lighting - wish for just a touch more space on the bottom actually

You caught a great moment in some sweet light here, Steve.  Looks like a Red-tailed to me.  The take-off stretch and wing spread really make this one.  Well done.

Really nice. I like the spread wing and the great look at the feathers. Looks like a Red Tail to me.

the thumbnail didn't do this one justice--this is really nice.  love the one foot still on the pine and the great angle of the bird toward you.  good sharpness, nice comp, and the bg provides some context without being too distracting. I agree with Luke that this could go a little looser with some more room on the bottom, but like it a lot as posted.

Nice timing on this one Steve. I am totally good with the room on the bottom and like it as posted. Nice work Steve.

Hey Steve,
You have not posted in a while but after coming across this image I can see why, this one will be hard to top !
Very impressive in all respects and the large version is a must see. I'm with Kurt on this one, it looks just fine as posted and has plenty of room at the bottom.
Well done . . .  devil
