Raging Potomac #2

Here's a horizontal view of the water, rocks, and mistbow at the top of Great Falls.  I'm also including a view that shows most of the scene about 20 minutes before this shot.  (5D3, 70-200 f2.8 + 1.4 TC @ 280mm, 1/4 s, f/16, iso 100, tripod polarizer and 1.6X ND)

Here's an "overview" of the action on the Maryland side.

I like these shots, Mark.  This one maybe a little better.  I've never seen a wide view of these falls before, thanks.

Another sweet mistbow shot! You're making the right choice going for the abstract comps. The full shot is nice, but your narrower comps are a LOT better. I like that little "fountain" of water behind the rock in the middle.

Thanks for including both views Mark. I think I prefer your first posted image raging Potomac number one. But I like this one also. The first image has more depth and layers. The rock in the center of this image seems a little more obtrusive. The wide view is rather cool though. I don't think I've ever seen the Potomac that that much water. Wish I had my kayak (and wish I was 30 years younger to make the run).

I really like the color from the mistbow in this one, Mark.  It's prominent enough to identify itself  A very beautiful and effective image.  The Overview image is really cool as well.

I like this comp, Mark, and the energy in the raging water. I also like seeing the wider view with all the raging water and the very nicely captured rainbow. As between the closer up views, I like the rendition of the mist bow in the previous versions which looks more like a rainbow. The mist bow here is diffused by the magnification and is also along the top of the photo which makes it less recognizable for what it is.

Hi  Mark crying     I like the abstract  mood captured ,      combined with  power  of the raging water  tumbling  over the falls.    the color and detail  add to the quality  of this  fine   presentation

Mark,
Beautiful image. Thanks for sharing the overview - that's a lot of moving water! This comp. also works fine but I think I prefer the vertical which to me is stronger visually.

Fun to compare the two views Mark; thanks for providing both for perspective. The rainbow colors add a lot to the brown of the water.

Mark,

I like this one too.  This has a nice balance between the flow and torment in the river with the dark rock and of course the rainbow.  My favorite part is the texture and flow of the river in the upper section.  The mistbow is clear and doesn't necessarily have to resemble a clean rainbow to have an effect.  No nits here.  I do wonder if you experimented with different, longer shutter speeds.

No doubt a fun day at the Potomac.  Oh, and I appreciate the broader view for reference for those of us who have never been there. And btw, that image stands nicely on it's own with the mistbow really showing it's presence.

I like the broader view more than the closeup in this case.

Hi Mark,

A Like the wider view of this area very much. I believe it is because sense of flow of the water, and the sheer power of the water is truly felt when a large portion of the river is included. The rainbow is so sweet in the larger version too.

I am really enjoying the tones and the overall soft color palette. What a delightful close up view of nature at its finest.
