Merritt Tricolored Heron

I had the opportunity to drive the Black Point Drive at the Merritt Island NWR last week. It was a windy, blustery, overcast day, and it was perfect in a few areas for a limited number of spoonbills, alligators, ibis, and others. The little blue and tri-colored herons were the stars of the show though, hopping through the reeds, chasing down their prey. This was one that stood still for a bit, long enough to get a few good shots. I could not believe the colors. If I get a chance, I will post a couple more in the next few days of some of the other wildlife there.

Specs - Canon 40D, f11, 1/250sec, iso 400, -0.7 exp bias, 250 mm (100-400 ISL), handheld from car, with IS on, cropped from landscape to portrait (40%? of original)

Very sharp - makes him stand out well from the reeds.  Nice one.

Nice one, Ed.  Excellent detail in the heron and I love the vibrant colors in both the bird and the reeds.
