Tree Swallow

We spotted the first swallow over our property the middle of last month, but with a sunny morning today, the main body was starting to arrive and box selection was starting to take place.  Most of our boxes are mounted to 2x4's because it's inexpensive and fairly easy.  Unfortunately they don't make really good looking perches until they've had several years to age.  However, I still liked the pose and light on this one.

7D2, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, handheld, f/8, 1/640, iso 500, aperture priority, pattern metering, +2/3 EV.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 9.96MP before resizing.  Taken at 10:13 AM under partly cloudy skies.

Your comments and criticisms are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks,

Beautiful shot of a gorgeous bird Dennis.  Looks sharp and well exposed.  Not crazy about the perch, but I surely wouldn't complain if it were mine.  Nice work.

Dennis: the overcast light really served to bring out the blue/green tones in the swallow while preserving the whites. I really like the pose of the bird as it looks over its shoulder at you. Nicely done. Richard

This is a beauty, Dennis. Handheld..... don't think I could have held this still.

I think the weather cooperated with you on this image, Dennis. These swallows are tough to expose well and you have done a very good job of getting the techs right. Both blacks and whites have good detail and the iridescence has come out well. The perch is not ideal and the background is a little dull, but there's not much you can do about it. Comp is very pleasing.

Looks like a very active spring for you.

Really sweet color and detail.  Good head turn and catch light.

Hi Dennis,

Looks good--tree swallows love to perch on fence posts so the perch works for this scene. Nice and sharp and you were able to capture some nice details too...........................Jim
