For Eternity

We have said, that as photographers, we are artists. But art is not simply about what is captured. Art is about what is spoken. What is spoken comes from within. It evokes a connection with an idea, or a subject, or even a mood. And in that connection somewhere there must be a bond that runs deeper than simply what is before us at that moment. It must be unique to us. I feel the best images, this art, must speak from what is inside ourselves first. This image is about what I want to believe in. Here I saw clarity and strength in times of turbulence and unknown. I wanted to make an image that captured this feeling.

This image is the first I have posted to NPN in many years, and it represents who I am today.  I want to believe that I can speak in some way through these images, even if it takes a lot more than that.  When it is all done these images will remain my light and my voice.  They can tell you who I am, who I was, and who I always dreamed to be.

Very dramatic and beautiful, Marc. The sky is wonderful, but I also love the light. Welcome back.

Welcome back, Marc. I hope to see more of your wonderful images. That's a pretty dramatic image. I really like what you wrote about photography and how it relates to the photographer.

A lovely and emotive shot.  The flight of the bird suggests a life soaring amidst such harsh and jagged conditions.  The light suggests hope.   Everyone can sense their own story in this.   Yours is yours alone.   I love art...thanks for sharing.

Dramatic, full of impact, and mesmerizing as most of your photos are. Thanks for sharing this work of art and for sharing your talent with so many. Your images do speak, and beautifully.

Welcome back mate. Love the light play on the clouds like brush strokes in the sky.

Marc, Really nice seeing a post from you here again and what a beautiful image it is. Amazing light and conditions you captured. I love those streaking clouds across the top and also enjoy what the bird added, which I didn't notice right at first. Powerful image for sure and I enjoyed reading your thoughts. Thanks for posting it. Cheers.

Nice to see you posting again Marc, welcome back.  Beautiful image for sure, and it does evoke a strong feeling from the viewer and, as such, "speaks" to the viewer.  If this is what you were trying to accomplish you succeeded nicely, as you always have.  I don't know if this tells you who were in the past, but it does speak of who are you now.

Thanks Bill, I meant all my images over time, not just this one.  But thanks to everyone.  I will see what I can do about sending some more people back to this site but the core that has stayed here are as quality as they come.  I will try to post and comment again sometime.

Marc,

Great to see you posting an image here.  Not quite as busy or prolific as it used to be, inspirational images will always help pick things up around here.  Hope you are able to contribute a little bit now and then.

Can't tell from this smaller web size, but is that a raven? or perhaps an eagle making a turn?  Even beyond your connection, that tiny little element says so much for me and can tell many stories, I think.

Thanks, Lon.  It is a Condor.  They are all over the skies down there.  ......maybe if NPN changed its size limits to 2000 pixels.....

This is lovely: the subtle colors, the various cloud structures, the prominent peak.  No doubt this, along with your other work, will speak to many.  Looking forward to doing eastern Sierra and DV with you next winter.

I don't think I could say any one image in your portfolio is my stand alone favorite! But this is in a select group I would say. When I saw this for the first time a few months back, a lot of thoughts and emotions came over me. Feelings of awe, reverence, appreciation, gratitude, even envy, but not in the negative sense. What and how you and I do are quite different. But I think we would be on the same wavelength in appreciating a moment like this!

Wow, Marc is back on NPN! Awesome. I've commented on this elsewhere previously, so all I will say now is that I never get tired of looking at this one, even though I've seen it many times. devil

Yes, I agree with all. A powerful composition.  Your skill at using chiaroscuro to create drama is unparalelled.  Love the way the mountain is talking with the cloud with the other cloud looking on.

Perhaps it is the stage of life I am in, but I too have been thinking about the fact that as photographers we have the ability to "pass on" a bit of ourselves in a unique way. Hopefully descendants will have more than snapshots to see "who I was, and who I always dreamed to be." Well said.

The light is perfect here, bringing the drama out of the darkness. My only wish is you had posted the larger version too.
