Canon 1D-X, 500mm f4 x1.4 TC, handheld from truck window
f8, 1/1000, ISO200

Another photo from my visit at the lek. There's a bit of a head turn in this one, where he's checking to see if the hen is interested. The dark blob mentioned in the first photo – the back of another male – is less pronounced in this photo.

75% of full frame. Slight adjustment with Shadows/Highlights and selective sharpening of the bird.

Please see the larger version; it's worth the bandwidth, I think.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Jim, I went back and checked the previous image, just for the comparison. First, this is a much better composition, with the head turn. Second, the large image is the only way to look at this. The detail is really fine! In the 720x, this appears much darker from your first, but the large image—again—looks just right. I really have no nits. A fine, fine image!devil

Very nice, especially in the large version. Nice detail and exposure. I'd love to see one, let alone get a shot of one this nice.

Jim; very well done. The detail in the larger version is excellent and must be seen to be appreciated. Pose, techs and composition are spot on. Richard

I like this Jim, but prefer the first pose. This one the mid-tones seem a tiny bit dark to me. I might selectively lighten them and maybe bring up the shadows...both things just a tiny amount.

Jim,
Great pose , I might try lightening it a little, but it could just be my monitor

Hello, Jim. For this one is even better than the first one. It's more intimate, mainly to the pose and position of the Grouse. I like the fact that it's on the dark side ! Excellent work devil, Cheers, Hans
