I know that conventional wisdom tells us to shoot flowers in diffuse light but something I really enjoy is the challenge of shooting in dappled direct sun. We have an incredible crop of callas this Spring and I had a wonderful time this morning with this little beauty as light and shadows changed by the second. This was one of my favorites. I love this kind of lighting too, Bill - it can animate the flower in a way you don't find with softer light.  The play of light and shade works beautifully here for me - and the spadex is set off nicely by the flow of the petal behind.

I agree whole-heartedly. It not only frees one from the mindset of shooting only in set conditions and hours of the day, but it sharpens one's perceptions to search for a path of perception given any conditions and times. As for this Calla, I like the plane of focus, sharply defining the central spike and the enclosing play of soft shadows that frame it.cool

Looks like a pristine bloom Bill. You have managed the challenge well.
