Big Island Heat

We signed up for a door off volcanoes and waterfalls helicopter rider over big island out of Hilo. Drove over from Kailua, Kiona; waited about an hour but unfortunately we got rained and clouded out. We were also the only 2 who had booked the flight. Next day we took an around the island closed door flight.  Didn't make for as good photos but some interesting ones.

Jim, this "from above" view is quite dramatic.  The sharp edge of the lava pool and the strong sunlight/shadow edge do a fine job of focusing attention on the lava pool  The strong red cracks of glowing lava look great and definitely otherworldly.

Had to look twice before I 'got the picture'. The shadow together with the orange cracks in the solidified lava create a very strange effect. Not just interesting, I like it.

Pretty cool, Jim.  took me a minute to get oriented for this one and figure out what was going on.  Thanks for the suggestion as well.  I was trying to figure out what I had that showed heat and this reminds me that I did take some shots when we were on the big Island some years ago.

Wow, this is wild.  The cracking of the lava is really a neat perspective.  Next time there I'll have to take a flight.

Excellent view with interesting shapes, lines, colors and textures, Jim. I especially like what looks like orange "cracks" in the lava pool.

Hey Jim,
Glad you finally got off the ground and from the looks of this image, you took full advantage of being airborne.
Congratulations on the WP . . .  devil
