Tricolored Heron
by Dennis Plank
One of the interesting things about photographing from a boat on smaller rivers is that you often have the subject in partial or complete sun with the bg in shadow. This appeals to my artistic taste, though I'm sure others would disagree. In any case, I liked what the light did for this perch and Tricolored Heron (thanks, Bill & Wayne for the correction).
7D2, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, hand held from boat, f/8, 1/3200, iso 500, manual exposure (I did brighten the bird and perch about 1/2 stop in post). Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped from bottom and both sides to a 4x5 format at 9.2 MP before resizing. Taken on the Ocklawaha River at 4:56 on March 23rd.
Comments and criticisms are welcomed and appreciated.
Thanks,

The scene is nice and serene--dark BG works well in your composition. I like the colors of the heron--the bird shows off well as it stands out from the contrasting shadows of the BG.......................Jim
The larger version is very impressive,
Congratulations on the WP . . .
