Common Gallinule

Not a very flamboyant bird, but an interesting one.  There was a pair apparently nesting in the cattails at a bit extreme range from the dock where we stayed in Florida, and I spent a lot of electrons on them, but this one from a boat trip gave me a closer opportunity and I liked the habitat and pose.

7D2, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, f/7.1, 1/500, iso 800, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 EV.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  A slight crop for straightening.  18 MP before resizing.  Taken on Salt Springs Run on March 24th at 3:17 PM.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

I really like this picture with the twigs at the feet.  I have a picture of a Common Gallinule from last year, which is actually one of my favorite images.  I find the bird simple in one way, yet captivating with that red head piece and chicken like feet.  Well done!

I like the curious look, and the surroundings, really showing the habitat ! Cheers, Hans

I like them as subjects, anI like this image. Looks like soft light, and that helped to keep the tonal range under control.

You're selling the Common Gallinule short with those electric legs and neon bill. Nicely exposed in the blacks and whites. It feels just a little tight at the top, but I do like the low angle.

Good exposure on this guy Dennis. Glad you posted this. I saw one fo these in Bosque this year and wasn't sure what it was and wasn't successful at identifying it (until now) sad.
