We came across this Osprey on the recent Florida tour and he was on this perch with it's back towards us. As I moved the boat in closer, it decided to turn around for a better look at us or for a better pose for the camera, not sure which but it sure worked out fine as this image shows. Hand held from boat, 90% of full frame.

Sweet! Precision detail and contrast, wonderful takeoff pose. this is one of those shots that make you go "Aaahh" after you take it, when you just know you got it right. Congrats on this one, Mike!devildevil

Sweet, Mike.  I remember that perch-it's a beauty.  I don't think I caught anything this good on it.  The spread wings are excellent as is the exposure on the Osprey.  My only suggestion might be to add a touch of blur to the bg to provide a bit more separation and make the bird pop a bit more.  Good work.

Excellent, Mike. The pose is very, very good. I'm surprised the busy background is so sharp at f6.3 and with the lens at 400mm. I think you should consider Dennis's selection and try blurring it a bit.

Excellent raised wing pose Mike-great timing on this. Nice detail as well, the background is a tad busy-but they are where you find them-nice work.

Excellent sharp exposure on this osprey Mike.  Background is a little distracting, but you've done a good job of separating the bird from it.  Love the pose.

I like the wings in this one a lot Mike. nice exposure on this and the techs overall look good. I like the inclusion ont he environment, but I do wish you had a touch more separation from the BG. I am surprised at 400mm the amount of DOF you achieved here but I have not personally used that lens and am not real familiar with how it performs.
