Beautiful use of the filter. I like how the effect enhances the structure of the bird. You left enough shadow areas to give the bird an almost translucent appearance.

After having been away for a year drowning in life issues, (and now delighted to have some time to post again) I have to say I'm a bit disappointed more people are not commenting on the PA category entries by now.
I accept that many people aren't thrilled with altering images, but
come on, people - broaden your horizons! Photography is an art form, and very well-suited to artistic representation of "straight" images.
It is fascinating and rewarding to play with a good initial image and turn it into something more artistic and unique. I especially love the Fractalius filter - the new version, particularly, offers endless possibilities for creativity.
Give it a try!

Regarding your comment on comments, I agree with you, but PA isn't the only gallery with a dearth of comments. I think commenting in general has gone down over the last year or two. And it would be even worse if you weren't back participating!
