During the last week of the annual Florida Spring Break Tour I spent another afternoon at the Rookery which is an island just off the main channel of the St Johns River. I wanted to try a few ideas using the afternoon light and this is one of the results. Hand held from boat, 60% of full frame.

Wonderful image Mike.  I wonder if it could be cropped more to really focus on the beauty of this display?  On second thought, I don't think this could be cropped better.  Very nice job.

LOVE that it is mating season again. To me, there is nothing more beautiful than the mating displays of the egrets and herons.
Sweet shot here. Very tough to get them together and without branches all over obstructing their bodies.
Very fine work here.
I also really like your new website  - there are some exceptional images there, and it's nice to know more about YOU.

This is really nice, Mike.  I saw this behavior once or twice when we were at the rookery, but the displaying bird was behind something, so I didn't even try.  It never would have occurred to me to use the camera settings you used with that much negative compensation and all the way down to f/16, but it really worked.

Beautiful image Mike. The large version is a must see. The detail is incredible and I like that they are both looking in the same direction. Nice work.

Late comment, trying to catch up with NPN after a few busy day, and this one really caught my eye.  It's a great combination of an environmental/story-telling shot, and a classic portrait. I like the sharpness of both the nest and both birds, with the background just soft enough.  Lining up that dark spot behind the spreading plumes is a wonderful touch.  And the light on the birds is absolutely perfect to show off the details.
