Juniper Bark

Gary Phillips and I were wandering around some Utah backroads and found a nice little stand of junipers to explore.  This one got me to go to the truck and drag out the camera.

It is a two frame blend for DofF. The top left corner is a little bit soft (missed that in the field), but I don't find it distracting at a large size.

Very nice abstract Harley, and excellent B&W conversion.  One of those that test and treat your senses.

Fascinating subject, Harley. The image has a strong graphic quality but the wood seems to glow. I wrote a whole critique liking the the right side more but now the center is becoming interesting. Really nice image. My only criticism that I feel comfortable with is that you centered the subject.

I wondered what the hell you were up to with that old juniper.  My selections did not fair nearly as well.  Love the detail in this old boy and I'm glad you got the two frames in before the wind blew us out of there.  I might play around with a very subtle vignette or burn the top left a little.  Minor stuff.  Nice image Harley.

You've got some great textures here Harley.  The dramatic switch from horizontal to vertical is very eye catching and the contrast really pops, even in the small version.  It's a look that sure has me wondering about the story behind the shape.

Holy smokes, that is one nice find! This is absolutely perfect, love the horizontals embracing the verticals. And I am really glad you took the effort for a DOF-blend. Really enjoying this one!

Love the textures, and the tension produced by the abrupt changes in the directional flow of the lines.  Like Gary, I think I would either do a slight burn on the lighter areas of the upper left corner.  Or, a slight dodge of the extreme upper left.  When I first looked at the image I felt that upper left was cut off  because of the difference in tones between the brighter semi-circle and the darker extreme corner.  Overall, very pleasant to look at.

This is a great find, Harley.  In an abstract sense it looks like the entrance to a cave.  Way cool devil

Harley, A wonderful b&w abstract image. Nice work setting up this comp and on the b&w processing. The large version is very cool to look at and I love the textured feel it has. Nice work!

Harley,

Fantastic!  what a great find and of course an even better job capturing, framing and processing this. we've spent a lot of years studying and photographing trees and bark; this one is quite unique.  Well done!  No nits or suggestions

Where's the color version?  I have visions of what this might look like. ;-)
