Western Bluebird

by Allen Brooks

Gallery: AvianPosted April 29, 2016123 views7 comments
Taken in the morning at Finley NWR in Oregon with the sun coming in from the right.  The face was shadowed so I lightened it a bit in PS, but otherwise didn't alter the striking blue of the bird.

Canon 7D Mark2
Sigma 150-600 mm at 531 mm
1/320 at F7.1  on tripod
ISO 320

Comments and suggestions appreciated.

Any day with a bluebird is a good day. A tough shot in that uneven light, but it really does show off that electric blue.

Nice job on hte processing, Allen.  Personally, I like side-lighting and this is no exception.  I also like the leafing out Garry Oak perch.  I wish I could convince our pair to use such a nice perch.

Very nice colors in difficult light.  Great BG and pose.  What percent of frame?
What OS setting are you using when hand holding this lens at high shutter speed?

Hi Allen,

Yeah, you can't pass up a shot like this.  The shadows are quite strong, but you handled it quite well................Jim

Nice pose and I like the clean BG. I agree the shadows are a bti strong on this one which also caused for some hot whites on the belly. Not an easy exposure to pull off, but think you did a commendable job here Allen.

David, Thanks for the comment.  A pretty tight crop, 13% if I figured it correctly.  I use OS-1 when hand holding. How about you?

A beautiful portrait of this handsome male Allen. I really like how the light frames the bird and its perch.

Excellent Work!!!
