Anhinga Display
by Dennis Plank
There were quite a few Anhingas at the small rookery we visited in Florida. I'd been seeing some of the males going through an elaborate display routine from vertical extension through this pose to almost upside down (I'll probably post that pose as well) but there were intervening branches in most cases. Finally on my third and last visit to the rookery this one was displaying in the clear and Mike got the boat close enough for some decent exposures. I do wish the sky had been clear that day, but it doesn't help to argue with the weather gods.
7D2, Sigma 150-600 mm @ 600 mm, hand held from boat, f/8, 1/800, iso 640, manual exposure. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 7.8 MP in a 4x5 format (that's about 85% of original height, so not really a large crop-just removing a bunch of excess from the sides). Taken at 3:31 pm on March 29th.
Your comments and criticisms are really helpful and very much appreciated.
Thanks,

Just a super image and very unique, well seen and presented.
I have fished and photographed in Anhinga nesting territory all my life and have never seen one display.

Great displaying pose you captured of this handsome fellow I don't think the white sky hampers the image at all, in fact it works well for me.
Love that blue eye too
