Wild Puma Cub

On the first afternoon of my Patagonia trip, we were lucky enough to see the mother from my previous post and her three cubs along the shores of a large lake.  Two days later, those cubs were dead, killed by another puma.  Much of my group was understandably upset by this turn of events, especially since we made the grisly discovery.  So it was pretty special when, the very next day, we had an encounter with another female puma with three cubs.  We were very fortunate that one of the cubs, braver than the rest, climbed onto the ridge line to get a better look at us.  Hopefully this brood will survive into adulthood.

This is a very nice image of a very special inhabitant of the region.  I especially like the sky background, which nicely offsets the Puma cub.

Absolute cutie.  The techs look right on.  Again, what an opportunity to see so many.

Great capture! What a nice pose and beautiful backdrop. Thanks for including the story as well. Raw nature can be terrible and wonderful all at the same time. Thanks for sharing!
