Excellent, John. Love the look of and detailed captured in the cactus. On the minus side, I'd like a bit more room at the bottom and I find the bg screen unnatural, which I guess it is. Overall, well done.

Interesting comment, Scott. I wonder if this image, because of the screen, really belongs in the Man & Nature gallery?

John, I think this image is appropriate here. People regularly post still life floral images with vases, etc. Your image even has the cactus in clay pots to begin with, so I think the gallery is fine. Going back to my comment about the screen, it sort of matches the texture of the cactus, which is nice, but it kind of looks like fabric and I guess I would just prefer a cleaner looking bg. Given that you shot this in a greenhouse, not much you could do about the bg, I presume.

I will echo Scott's critique. Actually, the screen is my biggest minus. A neutral diffuser screen behind and minimal flash would have been better. A focus stack would have been perfect. I do seriously like the detail and wonderful flowers on the barrel cactus. They put this photo strongly on the plus side and make it a solid effort.
