Shenandoah, NP, VA

While hiking around in Shenandoah I came upon this tree and was initially attracted to it's character so I decided to hang around for sunset. I did not get that wow sunset as I hoped, but it was a very wonderfully quiet evening as the sun was setting into the clouds. It created a very nice range of warm to cool tones in the sky and landscape.

Thanks for taking a look and leaving a comment or suggestion.

Very nice, Ed. I enjoy  the layer of soft colors. The budding branches are a great filter.

This is beautiful, Ed.  I like the warm-cool gradient in the sunset color layers which compliment the silhouetted tree very nicely.

Sometimes non-wow sunsets are better than the wow sunsets I think. This is one nice and peaceful sunset, and the tree silhouette works well for me. A very tranquil photo!

Lovely image, not flashy but just quiet, as you say in the title. Colors are wonderful as they layer up from the bottom from dark to light, and the tree makes a delicate silhouette.

I really like this one, Ed.  The gradient from dark to light and the subtle sunset provide just the right backdrop for the sillouhetted tree.  Simple, peaceful, and very enjoyable.

A sweet, tranquil moment, Ed. You may have considered this but a crop below the large bright area at the top would create even more serenity for me and draw some additional attention to the Blue Ridges in the BG.

This is very nice, Ed.  The silhouetted branches work beautifully against the sunset gradient. If it were mine I would burn down the upper sky as it looks a little hot. Personal preference but I would also be inclined to try nudging up the vibrance.

This looks wonderfully pleasant and inviting, Ed.  I can hear the birds chirping and feel the evening breeze.  The tree silhouette makes a great foreground and adds well to the atmosphere.  Wow is not always the right answer.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone, always appreciated. Here is a repost with the sky along the top burned down just a bit as per Dave's suggestion. Any more and it just started to turn gray looking.

I actually prefer the original to the re-post, Ed. I've usually found that it is very hard not to get "mud" when burning whites hence my cropping suggestion which you are free to ignore of course ;-)
