Cedar Waxwing

These are infrequent visitors to our property (at least at a level I can get a decent shot), but a spell of very hot weather a week or so ago brought them in.  I'd been watering some bushes and saw one taking a bath in the sprinkler.  When I got back with the camera, it had moved to this native hawthorn tree and another was on the ground under the sprinkler.  I managed three of four shots with the bird relatively in the clear before they left.

7DII, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, hand held, f/6.3, 1/3200, iso 640, aperture priority, pattern metering, -2/3 EV.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 11.4 MP in a 4x5 format.  Taken at 8:34 AM on June 5th (the light was getting pretty harsh, but luckily was still behind me).

Your comments and criticisms are always welcome.

Thanks,

Good look at this waxwing.  Good detail and color.  I won't even try to hand hold my 150-600.  Glad  you were able to get this image.  Thanks for sharing, have not seen them in  our area in years.

Very nice Dennis.  I like the comp on this one. You were able to capture at eye level and with a reasonable BG. I had one visit me about 2 weeks ago and land on my fence and though I got an image, the perch isn't natural.  It has not returned.

Very nice, Dennis. It can be hard to get the feathers in these silky birds sharp. Well done. Also good work in getting the eye visible out of the black mask.

Nice feather detail in this Dennis. It's yellow tail tips seem kind of tattered, never seen them like that before. Nice catch.
