We do not have Red-naped Sapsuckers in our area but on a trip to the south-west part of the province we found quite a few of these birds.  In this image the adults were feeding the chicks.  The chicks were not big enough to stick their heads out of the nest but when I stood near the tree I could hear them inside.  The adults took turns feeding the babies, when one adult arrived the other would come out of the nest.

Nikon D810, 300 2.8 lens plus 1.4 tc. F5. 1/640, ISO 1600 HH.  Please check out the larger image.

Thanks for looking and critiques or comments appreciated.

Their alternating behavior made for a really nice composition, May.  Lovely image.

A very nice behavioral shot of these Sapsuckers, May.  In all my years, I have never seen these birds nesting.  Interestingly, it looks like the shot was taken on the same level as the nest.  Were you elevated at your position?

Nice contrasting poses from the male and female, May. You got some very nice light to work with. Excellent techs.

Excellent capture and composition, May. Very nice techs, too. And good work finding the nest in the first place.

The red on the napes give a good contrast to the green BG.
We do not have this bird in our area.

Actually the nest was very low, so it was easy to get level with the birds.

What a great family shot here May, tough to get one in focus, but you have done an excellent job with both of them. Very nice.

Lovely and story telling image, May. Nice to have them on both sides of the tree. Cheers, Hans

An unusual composition with the two birds, but I find it works quite well. Very nice bark as well.
