The collection of rock art in Sego Canyon near Thompson, UT, represents different eras and styles of the native Americans.  It is a collection of pictographs and petroglyphs left by former inhabitants.  Unfortunately many of these sites are damaged by more recent visitors.  This one is thought to be among the older of the art thought to date back up to 6000 B.C.  Although easily accessible by road and fairly close to the ground, this is one of few panels that remains virtually unmolested.  I like the assortment of what appear to be older, larger paintings mixed in with the brighter more distinct images.  Pano crop about 50% of original.

I am intrigued that the dominant figures in this panel are so similar to many of the figures in the rock paintings of the San People here in southern Africa.  I am told that they are trance or shaman figures.  The similarity must point to some deep-seated human perception that is not linked to any one ethnic group.
