Foggy Hills

I have lots of opportunities in the SF Bay Area to photograph fog, so couldn't pass up this weekly challenge. I'm not sure if I posted this photo before (how can I find out?) but I took it in February 2015 when the winter tule fog filled up the Central Valley and usually burned off later in the day. This was in Sonoma county at dawn, when the curvy hills stood above the low fog like round islands in places.

Thanks in advance for any comments or critiques.

Canon 5d, M3, ISO100, 160 mm, f/16, 1/8 sec.

Nice artsy image in the sense that half is colored and the other is almost devoid of color. Its as though two images were combined (which they are clearly not). The layers that extend from one half to the next hold it together and provide great beauty, My only nit is a technical one: there seems to be a white band at the border of colored layers and fog. Don't know if that's a natural phenomena but doesn't look like it.

Excellent combination of fog, light, and landscape, Kathy, and well composed for the lines in the hills. I also like the group of trees on top the far hill.

I know of no way to determine if an image has been posted before unless it has been saved to your gallery, but I'll add that posting an image that has been posted before is OK except I'd avoid reposting a WP in the same gallery (in which case it would be saved to your gallery automatically) and posting images in multiple galleries at the same time.

Beautiful moody image, with the range of both color and brightness.

This is lovely, Kathy, with that last ridge and it's clump of trees peeking through the tendrils of fog.  The sunlight on the middle hill is a great touch that adds a fine sense of inviting warmth.  I agree with Scott, about reposting, especially with respect to reposting previous WP winners.  If you've posted an image before, but it's not in your Gallery, then I'm fine with a repost.  I'm also fine with a repost of a WP as long as that's indicated.  Given the turnover in members, if it's been 3 years, many folks won't have seen the image before.

This is incredible Kathy! I like how you create all those lines w/ the fog, light and hills which draw my eye to the trees in the background.

How the fog in the low spots helps separate and define the ridges is very nice.  The light across the middle ridge is special.

Wowdevil  This photo has so much "action" in it...it just flows.  I can imagine standing there and seeing the fog roll in.  And the touch of orange in the middle deciduous tree is cool.  But, the view is absolutely fantasticdevil  Boy, I would not change a thing!!!

Nice layering effects here.  The color and diagonals work well.  I like the trees in the BG.
