Patiently Waiting

I found this big guy in the grass on the edge of the lake.  It was a very warm day in December, so he had crawled up on the bank to sun.  This alligator was in excess of 12 feet in length.  Taken at Lake Martin, near Breaux Bridge, Louisiana.  Please see the large image.

Cropped to 64% of the frame.

Wonderful detail on the hide in the larger image.  You were quite close and vulnerable to such a massive critter.  But it's an excellent shot, the way it's concealing itself in the grasses.

Hi Raoul,

Nice rock! enlightened

Detail on the larger version is great. In this case I think the vegetation adds to the "theme" of the image (of the patience of the "hiding" predator) rather than being a distraction. The low angle of view adds to the shot...good decision to lie down to get the shot.

Thanks for sharing this one...

Cheers...

I do like the detail in this image.  Closer than I would ever want to be to one this big.  Thanks for sharing.
