I have some large Manzanita bushes in my backyard. Every summer they shed old bark, which leaves these curly-cues.

Please see the large version Thanks!

Your thoughts are always appreciated. cool

I have to say that I like the color version over the b/w.  That said, if I had not seen the color,  the b/w would be a solid image.  The colors are just so nice, and your processing spot on.  Beautifully done, Preston.

I will have to hop on the train and also second Gary's comment. The color version is a real treat, Preston.

Really appreciate this.  Great soft light pulls out the depth.  Very cool.  Color for me.

Lovely detail, color, and light Preston but I am loving the B&W more with its rich tonal range and contrast.

Well captured, Preston. Both excellent, but my preference is the color.

Loving the color version.  Great colors and sharpness.  The black and white is more abstract, more mysterious, but I like the the recognition I feel in the manzanita colors.

Color for me, you have captured almost the exact colors (to my eye) and the PP gave it a nice sheen.

Love the color version here. I've tried taking similar photos of manzanita bark but none look as good as this! Not quite sure why this would be in the landscape gallery as opposed to macro/close up. But great image no matter where it is posted on NPN.

You have a great eye for seeing these kind of detail shots Preston.  I prefer the color version because the rich color in the bark is part of the story of this image.

I much as I appreciate B&W photography I really like the color version of this.  We have lots of manzanita in our area but they seem hard to photograph for me but I really like your close up composition.  Well seen, way to go.

I like the color over the b&w as well, but I think the b&w version could be made to look better than the color verion.

And I strongly feel that intimate landscapes such as this do belong in the landscape gallery.

I am torn between the versions, as I like both a lot. I think the color takes it for me, but you can't go wrong with either. Nice work, Mr. Birdwell.

Hey Preston.  Fantastic photograph.  I like both very much with a slight lean towards the color.  It just has a richness to it that really grabs me.

Hope you are doing well.
