Sora

Taking a break from the Spotted Sandpiper with a newly hatched Sora.  I have been watching this area for some time because each time I go one of the adults is always there.  Sunday morning I was rewarded with the appearance of two small soras.  Initially they stayed in the reeds but eventually, after 2 1/2 hours,  they came out into the open.  I was very happy to have my 'kneeling pad' to sit on.

Nikon D810 300 plus 1.4, ISO 640, f8, 1/320

Thanks for looking and critiques appreciated.

Excellent capture, May. 2.5 hours? Your patience is astonishing. The giant feet on the little bird are very cool.

I finally saw and photographed my first Sora this year May, but have never seen a chick before. How adorable! Love your low POV, nice techs, part of me is wishing you had a bit more SS to get the leg sharper, but I also like the implied motion, so I am fine either way really

Superb definition in that fuzzy black plumage, May and a wonderful pose.  Interesting that even that young those feet move faster than one would expect.  Excellent work.

The cute factor is off the charts!! Very nice.  Nice exposure to hold detail in the blacks.  Nice low angle.  Couldn't ask for anything more.

Definite cuteness factor on this one! I like that you weren't afraid to get so low to the ground for this angle, it always pays off. Good thing you had your "kneeling pad" enlightened. He's got such big feet, I feel he'd be rather clumsy, haha. Your patience definitely paid off. Congrats on a pretty awesome image. devil

n amazing and unique image. I've seen lots of adult Soras, but never a fledgling like this.

In adation to the unique subject, all the techs are spot on as usual.

As others have said, I have not seen a baby Sora, either.  I didn't even realize they were black like this.  Very nicely captured, May.  devil

Sweet image. I have never seen a sora chick (or an image) before. The legs look oversized for the bird. Excellent sharpness and exposure on the blacks. Your patience paid off very well.devil

Terrific exposure and point of view. Motion artifact is not a problem. Very nice composition.

Great to get an image of a baby Sora May, I like the big feet with the motion blur. devil
