Sony A77
Minolta 200mm macro
ISO 400, 1/640 @ f11

We have a number of these guys cruising around our garden and since I had the camera out snooping around one evening I decided to try to snap a shot or three with some light filtering through one of our trees. All comments welcome.>=))>

Great luminance Bill. The DF kind of glows. Good DOF and very nice BG. I like.

Bill, this is a fine catch on what I'm pretty sure is a Blue Dasher (Pachydiplax longipennis) female, although a teneral male would have similar colors.  It's always great to see the details of their compound eyes and those show very well in the larger view.  The background is a great complement as well and there is a fine "glow" to the image.  While I don't think anything is truly blown, I'd tone down the lower part of the eye, the side of the thorax and the tops of the legs.  That would let the colors there show up a bit better.  Over the last two weeks, I've gone from having one hanging around my pond to having 4 or 5 almost constantly chasing each other around the pond (~ 5' x 15' surface area).

I agree with everything Mark said. Also it seems a bit cramped in the frame, I'd add a bit of canvas on both the left and the right margins. Wonderful detail captured.

Excellent DF image, Bill, with superb color and detail in the subject and a beautiful bg. I like the square crop, but I also think John's suggestion of additional room front and back has merit. devil

Hi Bill,

Very colorful and an interesting, but tight comp. The image is very bright and I agree with Mark about toning down the brightness of the thorax and head and it should provide more details. A little more room as advised by the other reviewers will help the comp as well.  You did get this blue dasher nice and sharp with some ideal details captured in the eyes. Overall, a pleasing image with a wonderful, sharply focused subjectdevil................................Jim

Bill, excellent detail, especially in the eyes and beautiful colors. Great background too. It would be even better, in my opinion, with a slight reduction of brightness.

The lighting is wonderful, Bill!  The dragonfly and the background have a very nice glow.  The detail and sharpness in the head is excellent.
