Sierra Moonset

John Muir Wilderness backcountry. This image was captured ~20 minutes before sunrise. I processed several images with alpenglow on the Sierra and the moon properly exposed but in the end I preferred the less contrasty pre-dawn light with a more stylized over-exposed moon. Comments, critiques and suggestions appreciated.

Blimey Dave gorgeous, seriously impressive shot and the naked sky suits it beautifully.  Big is even more beautifful.

Absolutely couldn't be better, Dave.  You have had a lot of wonderful images, but this may be my favorite.  Love it.   Nothing I could suggest to improve.   Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow - spectacular alpenglow!  Great use of symmetry - I especially like the symmetry created by the placement of the rock and the moon in the composition.  Just spectacular!!  devil

Gorgeous image, Dave. I love the symmetry in the scene along with the combination of warm and cool colors. Beautifully done.

Beautiful, Dave.  Peaceful, serene and a classic high Sierra scene.

Lots to like, Dave.  The faint moonstar, orange against the magenta, sharpness of the foreground rock against the softer reflection, and how the moon and rock are counterpoints.  This should look nice in print.  Nit would be that there seems to be too much magenta in some of the snow banks.

Very impressive shot, and I love everything about it except the purple sky, which is just a matter of preference but gives this otherwise over the top photo for me a drawback. Others seem to like it, so it's just my minority humble opinion (or my monitor). The comp and conditions, the way the moon and foreground rock line up, everything else is perfect.

The best of your recent Sierra photos. Lining up the moon with the FG boulder makes for a very nice comp.
Colors are outstanding.

Lovely image, Dave. Great use of symmetry and light. I have one minor nit though : the pinks in the sky aren't quite reflected in the water below and that seems to stand out to me. Perhaps I'm being overly picky, but otherwise, I've got nothing else to add. Spectacular work!

Jaw dropping gorgeous, Dave. I agree with Kathy about the purple sky, but this really is spectacular.

This is a gorgeous scene. I like the symmetry with the moon and rock. The reflection as noted looks washed out which is the opposite to what one should expect in nature.
