Central Utah from April.

I was drawn in by the ridge lines and areas of light and shadow.

D810, 70-200

I have been having issues with my B&W images with a lot of shadows blocking up badly when I post them to the web. They look fine in PS and have to be significantly lightened (Tony Super Dark layer) before posting. I use the same routine I have used for years. Heck if I know what is doing it.

Composition of repeating ridge lines is fantastic but coming through quite dark and muddy on my monitor, Harley. Given my primitive PP skills probably cant help ID the issue.

Yep, it's super dark and muddy Harley.  I had some issues a while back and I think it had to do with color space.  I had changed something and had not gone back to rgb.  Maybe that's it.  I tried to go back and find those images but I removed them from my gallery along with the corresponding verbiage.  I'm sure it's something silly like that .

Love those lines, Harley, and the remarkable contrast.  Hope someone can come up with a solution for the blocked up shadows.  Still, the abstract qualities of the image really shine as presented; must look superb on a print.

I definitely like the interplay of light and shadow as well as the z-shape from the ridgelines.  As noted though this is posting very dark.

The layers in this arid landscape work very well as does the interplay of light and shadow, Harley. Gary may be on to something with the rgb because I had some prints coming out dark until I realized that my color space had somehow been changed.  I know once you figure out the problem with the shadows blocking up this beauty will shine.

Hmmm Harley,

I should try to post a b/w image here with my next post to see if I am having the issue as well.

The large version of  this scene is a must see as the darks open up beautifully, and one can explore the layers of this scene. I really dig the choice to keep this image dark and moody. The slight highlights dabbled through the scene really help to bring the eye through the image nicely.

Dig this one bro

Harley, I don't know what is going on either but hope you get it figured out. Although dark I can see all the potential for this. The comp looks great and I can see that the shadow and light looks really interesting. It is a very cool shot. Good luck!

Composition looks good Harley. The image seems a bit underexposed. Underexposed, unless you are looking for a somber interpretation. The subject doesn't seem to call for such darkness but it's really up to what you're trying to say.

Beautiful lines in this photograph that really showcases the complex geology of this location.

Not sure about the blocked shadows (as you mention). I hope you get to the bottom of it soon.

Best regards,
