On the Edge

I prefer you interpret this scene for yourself, not hard to figure out what's going on here.
Something I like to demonstrate and teach to the photographers who join me on safari is the art of exclusion (and conversely inclusion) in framing your images. What you leave out can help tell a stronger story...

Techs:
Nikon D810
Nikkor 400mm f2.8E VR
f4.0  |  1/1000 SS  |  ISO-64

Honestly, it reminds me of a Yellowstone-type environment.  I could interpret that as thermal steam if I didn't know better.

I like the composition.  The dark left corner throws me a little, but it's nullified by your wise choice of a thick black border.

We and they know what lurks below. We don't have to venture there, but they do. What a fine example of what isn't there being there.

Dust is always welcome for a nature photographer (in the photo, that is, not in the equipment enlightened) - great shot Morkel, which does leave a lot to the imagination. I do also like colours in dust, obviously you thought it better in B/W - I do, however, wonder about the colour version. Anyway: nice! devil

Grt, Ingrid.
