Last day of velvet

Nikon D750 with Nikon 70-200  F10 1/320 ISO500

I found this buck in the Smokies at dawn last Fall with what had to be it's last day of velvet. The blood red antlers were amazing and couple that with the fog rolling away in the field made for a great morning. This buck fully cooperated with images as he grazed away.

Comments please.

Fine image showing this stage of the antler cycle!  Good colors, details and composition.  In a way I wish the fog was not there.  Thanks for sharing.

They only look like this for about one day a year!  Cool.  I think the fog makes for a great soft background, but I would add selective contrast boost to just the deer and maybe immediate foreground to give the subject more pop.  Side note...impressive buck and he seems really heavy bodied.
