This is looking back down the valley from Edith Cavell Glacier overlook in Jasper National Park. Dramatic sky and jumbled rocks provided some interesting elements. Thanks for your comments and suggestions. Canon 40D, f11, 1/1000sec, iso 400, -1 exp bias, 24-105 ISL at 32 mm, bean bag on rock, ISL off.

Hi Ed,

This is an interesting scene that provides some challenges with processing.  I like the rocks and trees in the foreground.  There's a burned in bright spot on the left hand peak that is somewhat distracting, but is part of the scene.  The clouds cast some interesting shadows and add some significant depth to the image.  Even though I like the foreground rocks, cropping them off the bottom makes those mountains in the BG more impressive.  I'm glad that you posted this scene--I enjoyed looking at all of the features presented in the image....................................Jim

I'm inclined to suggest a slight crop too, Ed. Maybe up from the bottom to the lower edge or point of the two biggest rocks?  There is a nice z line going on in this!

Great scene!

The clouds, the colors, and the snow make this a very inviting view, Ed.  I like how strongly those foreground rocks stand out and how much warmth they add as they set the stage for the rest of a great view.  There's a fine sense of standing there looking at this beautiful landscape.

Nice image Ed. I also like the FG rocks and agree with Marylynne on a slight crop up to the bottom of the larger rocks.

Good strong composition with strong diagonal lights. Color is a personal preference but I would desaturate some colors here, like the sky. My favorite part are the mountains and the lifting mist. Good job.

Edith Cavel was in my recollection a Canadian heroin in WWI who as a nurse in Belgum was shot by the Germans for helping patients to escape.

lovely and dramatic scene.  I know the oxidation of the foreground rocks makes them pretty colorful.  Toning them down saturation wise could improve the image harmony.

thanks for sharing, great mtn scene!

I think the framing works as-is. The foreground rocks add a sense of depth. I do agree with the suggestions to reduce the saturation in the blues and yellows. You did a good job handling the dynamic range is this scene, Ed.
