Winter Bison

During my winter Yellowstone tour earlier this year, we were fortunate to catch a herd of bison as they wandered through Midway Geyser Basin.  I played around with different compositions and both color and monochrome processing, but particularly liked how the steam, trees and silhouettes looked in black and white for this one.

Lovely light and silhouettes. B and W was a great choice here, this is such a wonderfully elemental image. Steam, snow, bison, great light. Couldn't be better!

Max, I like this B&W image, particularly the brighter ridge and trees above the bison.  It draws my eye away from the bison, but then the bison draw my eye back to them.  Does that make sense?  Anyway, a great photo.

Terrific frame, very nicely executed!
It has so many winning elements, works very well in B&W>

The exposure of the snow looks perfect and my eye keeps admiring the quality of the detail on the background slope.  This could be a fine B&W landscape that just happened to have bison well located as an interest point! enlightened  Excellent capture.

I like how the deep black of the bison make them stand out in the scene.  B&W seems to be a good choice for the image with a good range of tone and contrast

This is a beauty, Max.  Going b&w really lets the various shapes and brightness dominate the image.  I really like how the bright hillside sets off the small pines and how that contrasts with the black bison in the rising mist.  Haven't these critters read the sign about staying on the board walk....enlightened
