I’m seeking to accentuate the impression of the Goosander’s high-speed flight. Almost linear ripples and fragmented reflection contributed to that effect; flat calm, mirror-like conditions would have been less appropriate. I chose a substantial symmetrical crop of the original frame. In this instance I’m reluctant to crop with large amounts of canvas ‘up front’.

8 commentsMy first reaction before reading your words is that the composition left me flat with it being so centered. I'm curious why you're reluctant to have room on the left for the bird to fly into. As presented, a centered composition implies a static subject to me. I played wit the image, added canvas on the left and cropped some from the right and the implied motion is much stronger.
Just curious on your clear intent to choose this composition.
I won't enter the crop debate! Like it as you chose to crop.

Your accentuation works for me
