This is from last week at one of the local refuges. A lot of mallards and pintails present, and white-fronted geese were beginning to arrive. This bird is in eclipse plumage, but still a handsome duck. D800e, 150-600 @600, 1/2000, f7.1, ISO 800. Comments and criticism are welcome.

A nice over-the-shoulder head turn in this one, Jim, and you managed enough dof to get the whole bird in focus-quite an accomplishment for this pose. Nice image.

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone. Nate, do you really think this pintail is a hen? I saw hundreds of pintails on that day, and virtually none of the males were in their more typical plumage. They all looked like this. This molt occurs every year at this time.
