Belted Kingfisher

This was a totally unexpected find.  While I almost always hear Kingfishers along the wooded canals at Ridgefield, this one was stationed on one of the canals that has just a single small group of trees with probably 1/2 mile of treeless canal on either side.  One of the trees came down about a year ago and sticks out over the canal.  Apparently this lady finds it worthwhile to visit from her normal haunts.

7DII, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, beanbag on car window, f/7.1, 1/320, iso 1000, manual exposure.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 9.1 MP before resizing.  Taken at 9:02 AM on October 10th under lifting fog.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Nice, Dennis.  I've never been able to get close enough to a Kingfisher to get anything like this.

A famously difficult species to approach. Nicely captured and good techs. Maybe just a tiny bit of brightening?

Great job on a tough bird to photograph.  I like the pose with the slight head turn; good detail and background.

A very nice look at this Belted Kingfisher Dennis.   Very nice pose and head turn.  Wonderful sharpness.   It would be nice to lighten up the head a little.  Background is very good.
