Grizzly with Salmon

A shot from my recent tours in the Great Bear Rainforest.  Numerous grizzly bears were out scavenging salmon carcasses in some of the inlets and rivers we visited along the BC coast.  After the salmon complete their spawning cycle in autumn, they expire and become an important food source for bears, eagles, gulls and other animals.

Really nice one Max. Love the great look at both the bear's and salmon's eye. Even tehe salmon's teeth are clearly visible. Just a note. The large version is the same as the small. Would love to see a larger version.

Thanks Jerry.  The large is slightly bigger, but not by much since I max my web images at 800px high now (used to be only 550px angel), whereas I go 1024px wide for horizontal.  So with vertical images you don't get anything that's too much bigger from me these days.

I'd say that both of you got "quite the catch", Max.  That's a big fish and you've got excellent details both in the grizz and the fish.

Great composition and timing. It is wonderful to see both the bear's and salmon's eye. Excellent!

Hey Max,

Very simple but very effective shot - nicely done. I like the low angle (aren't Zodiacs great for getting down low?).

This looks like one of the "fresher" carcasses...I'm sure you've seen the grotesque condition some of them are in (yet the bears - and other critters - still seem to go for them).

Cheers...
