Great Blue Heron

I was within 50 yards or so of leaving Ridgefield when I saw this GBH hunting in the field next to the road close enough that this head shot is a very small crop.  I hung around and watched it catch a grasshopper and was about to leave when it tailed a vole.  I'll post a couple of pictures with the vole later.

7DII, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600mm, beanbag on car window, f/7.1, 1/2000, iso 640, aperture priority, pattern metering.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 17.8 MP before resizing for the web.  I blurred and desaturated the bg a bit to help make the Heron pop a bit better.  Taken at 11:53 AM on October 10th.

Comments and criticisms are appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

He was definitely concentrating on his hunt and not at all on you.  The blurring and desaturation of the background worked well, and the GBH really stands out.  I like the lighting, too.

Excellent head shot.  The large version shows great detail and the heron stands out nicely from the background.devil

Nice shot of this heron in what looks like difficult lighting conditions.  Between the shadows and direct sun you did a good job of processing.
