Fading Light

I found a campsite on a mountain in Utah and before dusk, took the dog for a walk with the camera gear.  The light, filtering through a hazy sky, was just about to drop behind a ridge. I let areas of the background go dark, letting the dark emphasize the warm light on the leaves.

Please see the large version. The small really seems to block up.

Harley, This image has such a wonderful feel to me and really makes me want to be there. The dark shadows with the highlighted trees works so well for me. The side lighting on the tree trunks looks fantastic and the lighted grasses in the foreground really ground the image. The lighted tree leaves are the show and the finishing touch to a beautifully captured image.

Beautiful scene nicely captured in the subdued light, Harley. This is an original image because of the pano format and subdued light, and the result is quite artistic.  I could see darkening the small tree just to the left of center so the center tree stands out more.

I really like the comp and light, but the textures in the shadows feels a bit weak.  It seems like it wouldn't need to be quite so murky.

Excellent image. I would like to see what brightening the center tree a bit would look like.

Really like this. You've seen beyond the reality of what was in front of you and presented a unique image.

Harley, I like the pano format and the content here, but I feel like it's too dark. For me, I think the shadows could come up a little, but I'd like to see the highlights a fair amount brighter, or at least the center tree as Ronald says.

Love that touch of light on the trees and leaves and grasses set against the dark.  The larger image definitely must be viewed to truly appreciate the beauty of this image.  Exquisite work, Harley.  Love the panoramic format as well.

Harley, you've captured a nice mix of inviting mystery with the overall darkness and how the surroundings peek through that darkness set off by the gently glowing colors of the backlit trees and grasses.  A very artistic view.

Excellent Harley.  Love the dark presentation and I find the details in the shadows of the large to be perfect.  Nice painterly evening image. I'm sure Maggie enjoyed the walk.
